Best Buy? There's yer problem! Onigiri Kawaii

All kidding aside, you'll find stories of ppl who say the same thing about Seagate, Hitachi, Samsung, you name it.

SSDs are the shiz... and less moving parts so they run faster and last longer, but they're expensive as all hell. Give 'em a year or so and you'll see much better prices

I dont plan on buying one until I can get atleast 500 gigs on one... for a couple hundred. a TB would be nice, but they would probly cost too much.

Awesome thanks Avgustin for the further input and yes i forgot to add my ram from my shopping cart to my wishlist. This was what I ended up getting:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220466

Anyhow I believe I"ve got it worked out pretty well and I did take into account combination deals as much as I could. I'll be ordering soon.

Thanks everyone for the information and feedback and I'll let you know how the build ends up when its in hand.

6 hard drive failures? Sounds like a skid must have fallen over in the warehouse or something. I still say it's a factor of bad luck.

As for SSDs, yes , they are amazing. I use a 64 gb as a boot drive (and to run FFXIV) and get blazing bootups. My Windows experience index also went from 5.9 to 6.8 for hard drive performance.

Reccomendations on SSDs? Newegg looks to have some good deals on drives.

I recall SD cards and flash memory in general being a fortune just >10 years ago. Remember when a 64mb mp3 player was 200$ + ?

I'm hopeful we'll see the full transition to SSDs in the next 5 years.

I'll bet by next summer we'll see the larger SSDs (120gb - 160gb) under $200, and we'll start seeing the 500gb SSDs popping up in the $300-$400 range. At the same time, we'll see 2tb conventional drives around $100.

This is precisely why I hate buying new stuff. It never fails that within days after I purchase, something new comes out that just blows my mind, and is only $20 more than what I originally bought. /sadpanda

You can already get these for under $100 when on sale and with rebates..I see them pop up all the time, or regularly around $120-$150.

Just be careful what models you get for the 2 TB. They're not all fit to be boot drives.
