Alright I've finished my cart, I'll process the order once I sell my current PC for $300 tomorrow morning. Here's specs on the new one:

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
LITE-ON 22X DVD Writer Black IDE Model iHAP422-98 LightScribe Support
XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1600LV6GK
OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950
GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Total cost of $1150. Still has 3 more ram slots left for another 6gig upgrade in 6mos-1yr :P. I may move down to an i7-930 and a radeon HD 5770 to save ~$150.. not sure yet. What y'all think?

I think this is a great build for the price point you wanna hit. The only thing I can think of is maybe getting a beefier PSU; that is if you ever plan on going dual card (crossfire/sli).

The difference between an 930 and a 950 is jack shit performance wise, so saving a few bucks there is no big deal.

Some people will push the nVidia 460 instead of the AMD 5850... I say go with either (as long as it's a 1gb 460). The 5850 is doing very good by me ( I run everything on max in game, except ambient occlusion (which apparently even kills single 480s) and overclocks like a dream, even without messing with voltages.

Remember to take pictures when you put this baby together. Onigiri XD

I don't know Netheri. If you wanna to move into the 70$ range, then you can do better than that "visually challenging" case.

Antec 600

Ok I just noticed the MIR... I guess it's ok for 40$. Lots of room... Not a fan of the look though, but that's personal preference I guess.

ROFL, my old PC I built with that case, {have it sitting next to me} and just a warning, the airflow is horrendous and everything will run very hot! Its manageable, but just to give ya an idea, when I was running that case my GPU was hitting temps of 74-83c+, and just changing cases to the Antec 1200 it dropped to between 47-55c when fans are on high and GPU fan on 70%. {this is during a full load...}

I'd highly suggest you choose a case with better airflow...like the Antec 600^ Roan linked too, or if ya have the cash get the 900 or 1200!

Definitely a fan of the Antecs and the Coolermasters.

Style + Massive airflow ( my haf 922 will sport 2x 200mm + 4x 120mm) = win.

I doubt I'll go for crossfire on this PC, to upgrade it in 6mos-1yr I'll just double the RAM. Getting another card is expensive, and ups power consumption by a considerable amount so you continue to pay more for it through use..

We have very different tastes in cases :P I don't like cases with bulky stick-out tops like that, and am obsessed with the window design on the sunbeam. I may do more searching on cases through the night though.

movin to a 930 instead of a 950 only bumps me down $35, so I think I'll stick with the 950. Still debating the video card though. Are the 460s any cheaper? I had issues with nvidia during windows-7 beta but I'm sure they've sorted all that out by now.

And there is a ton of room in the Antec cases...that other one is small...here check images to see what I mean:

Sunbeam Transformer

Antec 1200

if they had had one in stock i woulda gone with the MSI 460 Hawk that Roan has linked an unboxing video to somewhere on here instead of the 470 I got. I'm just too impatient for internet purchases. xD

That stuff sticking out on top is a nifty screw case, and a huge 200mm fan to help with extracting air. That sunbeam only has a 60mm on top. I thought the case design looked good too at first, but seriously you want better airflow over design.

The 460 aint that much cheaper to be honest. Like I said, either one is a fine choice.

The case really seems cheapo to be honest. No cable management, no cut out behind the mobo, no modular design.. puny fans, nothing tool-less...

Spend an extra 30 bucks and get something decent. Your parts will thank you for it.

I'm looking through newegg for other cases, the antecs are a bit expensive. The reviews on the Sunbeam said airflow was fine it was just loud - so thanks for mentioning that Khalus.. Airflow > looks.

That 600 Roan linked is a good deal, and only $% shipping...that sunbeam even with the rebate says $20 shipping...so your not saving very much. Also check eBay, cause believe is or not I found my Antec 1200 there for $97 cause it had a damaged box...hehe {1/2 price}

Never know, ya might find another cheap one listed! I'll check there for ya now too... {blah nothing on eBay atm...worth it....the ones at Newegg are far cheaper...and quite the deal!}

The airflow would be fine if it was running air penetrators or Noctuas... but these shitty 3$ fans aint gonna cut it.

Beautiful. 100% approved. Keep in mind that it's a full tower (big and heavy). I chose the 922 over this one for that consideration. Otherwise, perfect.

Well I don't LAN anymore, haven't for years so big and heavy is okay. I want the extra room for cabling and the video card. I know my 4850 just BARELY fit into my mid-ATX case (the case used in HP pavillion elite m9040n) even with all the modules/expansion slots removed so I want to be sure the new 5850 fits.

One last question - what do you think about the stock fan+heatsink on the i7-950, is it powerful enough for OCing to ~3.6ghz?

Its always risky with stock...I'd suggest you get a better heatsink then...check out mine...its beautiful, and cools so well!

I'm not sure if that monstrous thing would fit inside my case with a 230mm side fan on it :P. I haven't decided if I would OC yet, so I'll stick with stock for now and just upgrade when/if I want to OC. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Been playing around some more and made a build with an amd 965, a radeon 5770, 8gigs ram, and a 80gig SSD for 50 bucks less. Ram can still be doibled a year later. I may go with this build bexause SSDs are insanely fast at reading.

After spending the better part of my shift at work trying different combinations, this is what I finally ordered:

COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Black RC-932-KWN3 Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel

GIGABYTE GV-R577SO-1GD Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC ...

Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601930

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1333C9

Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3320418AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model AD-7261S-0B LightScribe Support - OEM

Order Total $1,189.36

This leaves me with the ability to double my ram and/or add a second video card, with both at x16 speeds. I also chose a SSD that will have my OS, FFXIV, and LoL on it. The internal HDD will keep all other files including music. I also kept my external with all my movies.

I did the same with my SSD and I'm just loving the 15 second boots to Windows.

Solid rig all-around. I myself would throw a few more bucks into the GPU, but the 5770 will run things fine.

That was the major price difference to allow for an SSD. It also let me upgrade to a higher wattage, so I can upgrade to crossfire at some point.
