This has been floating around for a few months now, and while its still unconfirmed if these specs are actually real or not is "the" question. I'm just at odds with what new GPU to get or wait for and its kinda driving me nuts. While I've been working my ass off to afford a new GPU during the last month or so, do I really wanna drop $500-$600 on a new GPU when the 475 or 485 releases? Or dare I say it one of the new 6000 series AMDs...ho hum! {I mean I really don't mind spending that kind of money if it'll last a good long time which it should, heck the 275 I have now is on par with the 460s according to all the benchmarks and GPU comparisons...} So I just wanna make sure I make a good decision and get the best value and lifespan out of it!

Especially since I'd love to consider upgrading to whatever new AMD CPUs are coming early 2011...

Doesn't look like anything special to be honest... I was reading that the 6000 series will only deliver 17-20% improvements as well.

Even the new generation CPUs are nothing revolutionary.

The real next gen stuff is coming next fall, sadly. A long wait.

Yeah next fall is way too long a wait, and while I've said countless times the 275 I have now is playing XIV well enough, I'd like better performance. So maybe after the 6000 series releases and pushes prices down, if there is no info on the 485 yet for release, perhaps just getting a 480 then would be good enough!?

The 480's a great card, don't get me wrong. I just wish there was a version of it that could be overclocked without having the fire department on standby.

Maybe the 485 will be the solution to that. Just sit tight man. ;)

I've got another curious question, really how much do ya think prices will drop on current GPUs when the 6000 series releases? All that I've read so far seem to only point towards the 5000 series of ATI cards getting a price drop, and nothing has been mentioned that it'll effect nVidia too.

Although I'm sure they'll drop regardless to stay in competition, but really by how much, cause from specs I'm reading it doesn't sound like the new cards will be but maybe $30-50 more...

I'm no pricing expert but I expect the new 6900 series top contender (AMD is changing their numbering scheme again for some reason) to come in at about 525$. The 5870 is gravitating in the 400-450 price point, so I'd imagine it would get knocked down to 350 at first with the 5850 at around 250.

Since the 5870 is the 480's direct competitor, I would expect a drop into the lower 400$ range in order to keep the pricing competitive. I also think the 465 and 470s are going to be liquidated very soon unless a company feels it's worth re-marketing them with a spin.

All theory, but I think it makes sense.
